Be your own Valentine with our top tips for radiant skin

February is the month of love. Whether you’re married, dating or single, Valentine’s day is the perfect excuse to practice some self-love. So pour yourself a glass of wine and follow our top tips to LOVE the skin you’re in.

1. Cleansing is key. Start by cleansing your skin with a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, daily grime and impurities. Choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type. We prefer cream or gel cleansers. Foaming face washes often contain sodium laurel sulphate which give them their foaming action, however this can be very drying on the skin.

2. Exfoliate. Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can really help to brighten your complexion. Exfoliators help to remove dead skin cells which can make the skin look dry and your makeup patchy. We love acids, (chemical exfoliators) such as glycolic and salicylic which help to deeply cleanse the pores and reduce the formation of spots. If opting for a mechanical exfoliator which contain physical ingredients to buff the skin, choose ones with natural ‘beads’ as they are friendlier to the environment.

3. Apply a mask. Use a mask once a week to boost skin’s moisture levels and radiance. There are so many masks to choose from but we love non setting, cream masks. Left for 10 – 30 mins, these types of masks are gently absorbed into the skin before any excess is washed off. Look for masks that are designed to target your skin concerns e.g. purifying mask for congested skin, hydrating mask for dull, dehydrated skin or anti-ageing masks with vitamin e, for more mature skins.

4. Serum & Moisture. Lock in moisture by applying a serum and/or moisturiser. Again, think about what your skin needs. If you have an oily, combination skin, you’ll likely want a product that is light weight, easily absorbed and non-greasy. Serums are a great choice as their molecules are smaller and absorbed more deeply, hydrating but not overloading the skin. A drier and more mature skin may require both a serum and moisturiser to target the deeper layers whilst also hydrating more superficially. You can choose serums and moisturisers that target different concerns, such as a vitamin c serum to brighten and fight skin aggressors like pollution, and a moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin. This is a great option for treating multiple skin concerns and getting maximum benefits.

Treating yourself to an at home facial from time to time will not only benefit your skin but can also make you feel great. Taking time for yourself is essential for being your best. LOVE starts with yourself first.
